I am extremely excited to blog on an extraordinary wedding, which Spellbound did years back. This recollection still brings a sense of satisfaction and warm fuzzies.
I found the term “Time Machine” apt to describe J&J’s wedding as the guests of were brought back to Tang Dynasty. And as the wedding progress, Time shifted toward contemporary time. This progress was depicted through the use of props, costumes and attire worn by J&J, music played, etc. Spellbound left no stones unturned as details are important to us!
The 2 months of preparation included discussion with the lovely couple, as well as sourcing for props that were relevant for the theme. Symbolism of things such as bamboo and water were also research into. And these were presented in the reception area.
Almost like a performance, the wedding march-ins were welcomed by gongs beatings, drummers, Chinese dancers in traditional wear and the wedding centerpieces included Chinese bamboo lanterns, with accompanying jade figurines, red buntings, etc.
The highlight of the night had to be the costumes J&J were wearing! For the first march-in, J&J donned the traditional royalty costume often seen in Tang dynasty period. For the next march-in, J&J wore a piece that had a modern take to traditional Chinese costume. A beautiful white sweet-heart dress by Amanda Lee stole the show durng the final march-in, which depicted the current time.
